Asus G51J-A1
Gamers are known to plunk down wads of cash for their battle gear, but not everybody has thousands of dollars to spend on a top-of-the-line 3D notebook. Enter the Asus G51J-A1, a relatively affordable 15-inch, 7.3-pound notebook featuring an Intel Core i7 processor and a stunning 1080p high-def display. This slick-looking system may be more travel-friendly than the big rigs, but it doesn’t offer the kind of 3D performance that gamers crave.
The screen has a resolution of 1,920x1,080 and a 16-to-9 aspect ratio, which means it can display full high-definition video (1080p) in all its glory without stretching or cropping. The Webcam is a 2-megapixel camera that does a fine job in low light and is more than adequate for video chats and quick low-resolution snapshots. The system runs fairly quiet.
The keyboard deck features a matte-black wrist rest with a comfortable, full-size Chiclet-style keyboard and a dedicated number pad. The isolated keys are easy to type on, and the keyboard has just the right amount of flex, which we appreciate. The touch pad is slightly recessed and offers smooth cursor control, and the brushed-chrome mouse buttons are responsive and fairly quiet.
